Time Requirements

Cresskill High School A Cappella (SoundXplosion) requires a sizeable commitment of time for rehearsal and performances. Please be sure to go over the calendar and understand the time commitment involved BEFORE AUDITIONING.

Performers are asked to clear their schedule for regularly scheduled rehearsals once a week for two hours minimum, usually held on Mondays from 7:00pm-9:00pm weekly for the entire school year.   When needed, due to conflicts, school closings on Monday, rehearsals have been scheduled for other days during the week at the same time.  

Should the group look to enter competitions (such as the International Championship for High School A Cappella - ICHSA) or  other special events/projects, there may be a need to require additional time and additional rehearsals which would be added to the schedule.  For example, additional rehearsals (two to three per week, two to three hours each) were utilized during the 2022-2023 season for three to six weeks prior to ICHSA competition.

Our summer camp and choreography weekends are both learning intensive events that are difficult to duplicate or “catch up” on outside of the event.  Attendance at these events is imperative.  Our summer camp dates are tentatively set for Friday 8/23/24 and Monday 8/26/24 from 1:00pm-4:00pm and 5:30pm-8:30pm.  Our choreography day is to be determined (but has occurred on a Saturday in November from 8:00am-3:00pm).

Performances are scheduled in advance, when possible.  Most performances, including those outside of school functions, can occur on Thursday or Friday evenings or anytime on Saturdays.

We presently do not foresee rehearsals being held during our Holiday Recess or Spring Recess.

Excessive absence may result in a student not being able to continue rehearsing, performing or participating in the group.  Examples of possible actions range from, but are not limited to, removal from singular events to a permanent dismissal from the group.

A SAMPLE CALENDAR IS POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE - IT IS A TENTATIVE SCHEDULE TO GIVE YOU A RELATIVE IDEA OF THE TIME COMMITMENT INVOLVED. THE SCHEDULE WILL MOST LIKELY CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER, CONFLICTS, AND PROGRESS.
