John Von Glahn – Cresskill Music Department

This is Mr. Von Glahn’s 30th year teaching in the Cresskill Public Schools.

During his tenure at Cresskill, the Cresskill High School Vocal Music Department has performed at: Sea World, Orlando, Florida; Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida; Carnegie Hall, New York; Lincoln Center, New York. Mr. Von Glahn has served as Head/Varsity Volleyball coach for 13 seasons, during which the Lady Cougars have garnered multiple league and state group championships.

Under his direction, the Cresskill High School SoundXplosion has qualified for the ICHSA in 2015, 2016, 2018-2023 and has participated in the Lifetime Television series "Pitch Slapped" in 2015 - 2016.

Mr. Von Glahn has served as guest conductor for the 2000 and 2016 Music Educators of Bergen County Middle School Festival Chorus and the 2010 Music Educators of Bergen County High School Festival Chorus.

Mr. Von Glahn received a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance with Certification grades K-12 from William Paterson University of New Jersey (then William Paterson College of New Jersey) and a Masters of Science in Education in Teaching Vocal Music from Northwest Missouri State University where he studied with Dr. Stephen Town and Dr. Richard Weymuth and served as Vocal Music Department Graduate Assistant.

Mr. Von Glahn is a member of the Music Educators of Bergen County, Inc., having served as a member of their Executive Board for over 18 years, and is presently serving as a Member-At-Large on the Executive Board and Middle School Choir Audition Chair. In addition, Mr. Von Glahn is a member of the North Jersey School Music Association, the New Jersey Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education (formerly the Music Educators National Conference), as well as the Cresskill Education Association, the Bergen County Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and the National Education Association. Mr. Von Glahn is also a lifetime member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional musicians fraternity.
