JAZZ BAND INFORMATION

The band rehearses on Thursday nights throughout the entire school year.  There will be an absence limit of 5 absences for ANY reason.  A 6th absence will result in removal from the group.  Some rehearsals needed to be shifted to Wednesday nights to accommodate other events in and around the music department AND school.  Please check your calendar to make sure you can commit to the rehearsal schedule.  The jazz band performs at the Winter and Spring concerts, as well as Cabaret night, Trumpets Jazz Club, and other events throughout the year.  There is an expectation that everyone will prepare their music before coming to rehearsals, as this is an auditioned ensemble.

The Cresskill High School Jazz Band, directed by Joseph J. Verderese, Jr., was resurrected in 2005 and has soared over the past 15 years with opportunities to perform at various events throughout the school, the town and North Jersey.   They have played at Trumpets Jazz Club, the One More Once Jazz Festival, Bergen PAC, Cresskill's annual "Dancing With the Stars" event, the Cresskill/Demarest Rotary Club Dinner, Rutgers Jazz Festival and various school concerts.  Since 2011, they have performed at Trumpets Jazz Club four times including performances with world renowned musicians such as trombonist Conrad Herwig, guitarist Dave Stryker, trumpeter Jon Faddis, Trombonist and Sea-shellish - Steve Turre and most recently, a double billing with saxophonist Eric Alexander and trumpet player Freddie Hendrix. In addition to the guests they have worked with at Trumpets, they have performed and had clinics with Gary Smulyan, Mark Gross, Robby Ameen and Kenny Davis.

The staff at Cresskill is very proud that many of our graduates from the CHS Jazz Band have gone on to prestigious schools for music including Hofstra University, Rutgers University, Berkeley School of Music, Boston University and the University of Miami.  Through the years, we have students who have been involved in the Lincoln Center Youth Jazz Orchestra, the NAFME National Jazz Band, All State Jazz Band, Region I Junior Jazz Band and Region I High School Jazz Band.
